This trip combines a spicy Sichuan cultural adventure with excursions west of Chengdu. After an evening of hot pot and Sichuan Opera we leave Chengdu for the Hailuo Valley to learn about the local community and geography through a cultural exchange with children from a local school, and an all-day hike in the world-famous glacier park. From Hailuo we travel to Ya’an, where we will visit the famous Panda Refuge, and hear stories of how pandas were rescued during the 2008 earthquake. Back in Chengdu, we will relax at Jinli Street, a shopping and snack area built in Qing Dynasty-style architecture. We end our Sichuan adventure as volunteers at the Chengdu Panda Research Center. We’ll help the keepers in daily tasks taking care of the pandas -- a unique opportunity to gain a close-up perspective of these amazing animals!
